Dear All,

Last week I listened two the Monday night Net for the first time using my Baofeng handeld connected to an external antenna. It worked well enough and having only ever used HR in the past I really enjoyed using simplex. This week I bought a FT-7900 dual band mobile and are looking forward to using it on 2m. For myself personally I think there is still a need for Simplex use within the club and it gives fairly new people the optunity to use Simplex and not just repeaters. Maybe we could do both and have two nets per week one for HR and another on 2m.

Thanks

Hi all GB3HR Users,

I enjoy listening to the club net on Monday evenings.

I think that the 2m net is the best way for the reasons that Jim has already mentioned. The fact of being able to provide meaningful signal reports to each other is of great benefit. I do however understand that it is important for everyone to be able to ;communicate with each other!

As far as HR is concerned, a fair few of us creep up there afterwards and have a chat anyway

As far as if we should / should not change;
I'm with the majority on this subject.

Regards

Vince

Hi all,

Having recently obtained my licence and got my radio setup at home (I wont call it a shack just yet) I tried joining the net about a week or so ago with little success. I know my home setup is not ideal, using a 1m vertical on a mag mount attached to a bracket on the top of my shed wall and only running 10w however I've recently had other priorities when it comes to finance. I've managed a 5-4 report to Watford on 2m simplex and get into the HR repeater (I've done 24 miles into GB3FN) ok but the nets are a battle. I can hear the controller (G3YXZ on the night in question) clearly and a few stations but as I'm +/- 9.5 miles south west of Harrow many people on the net may be a bit far for me to hear and reach. I fully understand the reasons for a net and getting reports but one has to take into account the location and operating conditions of members in the club.

Regards
Chris
