On Air CW Practice - Graham G4VUX

In an effort to assist club members who would like to learn or improve their Morse code, I’ve set up an automated CQ calling system in my electronics workshop.

It will be active on the hour, every hour, for a period of 10 minutes when I am working at my bench. It will never be allowed to run unattended so if you call, at any speed, I’ll pick up the contact.

The transmission will be on 144.050MHz in CW mode (not FM). Initially, the speed will be set to 12wpm but can, of course, be changed to suit the other station. I can provide Farnsworth timing which can make it easier for some to increase their reading speed.

I will also be pleased to arrange on air practice in advance on the 2m and 6m bands. Licensed members will find my email address on http://www.qrz.com or ask a member of the Committee.

That is brilliant Graham, I hope to take part in this and, in readiness, I have dusted down the keys and set up my rig.

I spent a long time a few years ago learning Morse code but with almost no-one to engage in friendly QSO's I was a bit nervy about using it, so my receive speeds, in particular have declined.

Looking forward to making contact.
