On 7 December 2025 the RSH held its annual construction contest at the clubhouse. There were five entrants, each with a fascinating construction project. The entrants were in alphabetical order:
- Ash G3CAT with her homebrew software making an FT-991A display the time on its frequency display.
- Brian G3YKB with his 'plug and play' wood-mounted circuit used to demonstrate waveforms re the intermediate licence syllabus.
- Igor 2E0IQC with his GNU Radio (SDR) flowgraph realising DAB broadcast reception and separate display of a recreated classic home computer.
- Matt G1MPC with his homebrew transportable 2M/70cm antenna.
- Sam M9SJW with his home-constructed large but collapsible 20M HF Yagi.
All the entries were excellent and it must have been difficult for the 20 or so members present to decide where to cast their votes!
The winner was Sam for his HF beam. 2nd prize went to Matt for his VHF/UHF antenna and 3rd prize to Igor for his software-defined DAB receiver.
An enjoyable afternoon was had by all, thanks to the entrants and the time and effort spent on their construction projects.
